Day 3: Advanced Group for Art of Cooking: Just Add More Lime!! by Isa

The Best Chicken Satay to Ever be Made

Today we started right away! Since we had already gotten a feel for the space, everyone felt more confident as they began to cook. Today we worked on a Chicken Satay with a Peanut Sauce and a Thai Som Tam to go along with the meal.

The first batch of chicken :)

We began by gathering our ingredients and cutting the chicken very carefully so as to not get anything else contaminated. Everyone diligently washed their hands and any plates or knives that touched the raw chicken. Then, we split up and began to work on the peanut sauce. As we began to work, other members of the group started on the marinade. We finished up swiftly and then moved on to the salad while the chicken sat in the marinade for two hours. While making the sauce for the salad, Chef Avrille insisted on adding more and more lime! Once we finished and cleaned up, we took a small break to reward our efforts.

After a well-deserved break which included volleyball, resting, and reading, we immediately started mixing the baste for the chicken we prepared yesterday. The baste included wine, which is not allowed on campus! Zeros for everyone! Though I do have to say it was worth it since the chicken was a success! Everyone loved it and enjoyed an amazing lunch with friends outside.

Once the group was all full and content, we took the chicken for the satay out of the fridge and skewered them. After that, it was right back to grilling! This time, the grilling was more time-sensitive seeing as each side needed specific timing to cook. But just as last time, our efforts pulled through and the chicken tasted spectacular, especially along with the peanut sauce.

Finally, for our last thing, we cleaned up and had a delightful ice cream picnic outside in the sun, which in my opinion was a perfect ending for our day. Today, I can confidently say that it was a hit and that everyone adored what they had made :)
